The ultimate expression of winemaking at Mission, Huchet wines proudly honour Brother Cyprian Huchet. The son of a French vigneron from the Loire, he became New Zealand’s pioneering winemaker whilst working at Mission in 1871. Produced in very limited quantities and only from outstanding years. His inspiration, a legacy we continue.

This 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is complex and intense showing black currant, blackberry, tobacco, mint and savoury notes. A cacophony of forest fruits and herbal notes, the palate is full bodied and robust with great power, depth of flavour and a long finish. The vintage will cellar gracefully for 10-20 years – the perfect gift or special occasion wine, it comes packed in its own individual gift box.

Estate Sauvignon Blanc

Joelle Thomson | 18.5/20

Cabernet Sauvignon with an impressive taut structure and great intensity. This is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Cabernet Franc; the latter adding lift and perfumed dark blackberry aromas. Both grape varieties combine beautifully to create a layered and lovely dark and impressive expression of a classic right bank Bordeaux wine. The 2018 vintage was a vintage with a long autumn, which enabled good ripening conditions, resulting in this wine’s density and richness. It was made from hand picked grapes which were given post ferment maceration (23 days) post ferment, followed by 12 months maturation in French oak and another year in older barrels. This wine will evolve beautifully for up to a decade and it was named after the late Cyprian Huchet.

REGION

REGION REGION

Hawke’s Bay

Located on the east coast of the North Island, Hawke's Bay wine region is one of the warmest winegrowing regions in New Zealand. The long and warm growing season provides for excellent ripening conditions and full flavour development.

New Zealand Winegrowing

Central to the success of New Zealand as a world-renowned wine growing region is the temperate maritime climate and the free-draining alluvial soils.

The growing season is long, providing perfect conditions for slow ripening and full flavour development. Cool nights and warm days retain fruit acidity which lends a freshness and vibrancy, highly characteristic of New Zealand wine styles.

Soils

Gravel beds, free-draining alluvial soils and stony terraces.

Growing season

Warm and dry delivering intense and characterful wines.
